 Auckland's premier art repository, the gallery holds important works by the likes of Pieter Bruegel, Guido Reni, Picasso, Cezanne, Gauguin and Matisse.

The Gallery also showcases the best of NZ art: 19th-century portraits of tattooed Maori subjects by Charles Goldie, to the text-scrawled canvasses of Colin McCahon.

Auckland is known as being the largest Polynesian city in the world, consisting of New Zealand's most multi-cultural population.

 

The north island's Auckland offers a wealth of Auckland attractions & varied Māori cultural tours delivering a first-hand experience of Māori culture. Auckland is home to the tallest structure in the southern hemisphere, the Sky Tower boasting a height of 328m. The Sky Tower offers 360-degree views of Auckland from its three observation levels with a chance to ‘skywalk’ around the outside or ‘skyjump’ 192m in the air.

The iconic Auckland harbour bridge which opened in 1959 provides many adventures, visitors can climb over, under and jump from the harbours dominating structure.

ONE TREE HILL (Maungakiekie)
- Auckland

 

One Tree Hill is situated in Cornwall Park on a volcanic cone which was the isthmus’ key pa and the greatest fortress in the country. It sits at a height of (182m) offering a 360-degree view of Auckland.  

Cornwall Park offers impressive mature trees and the historic Acacia Cottage (1841), Auckland's oldest wooden building.  There is also a excellent children’s playground and the Stardome Observatory which offers stargazing and planetarium shows.

 

Location: accessible from Greenlane Rd, Manukau Road or Campbell Road.

MT EDEN (Maungawhau) 
- Mt Eden, Auckland

 

Mt Eden offers 360 degree views of Auckland encompassing both harbours from the volcanic cone (196m). The crater (50m deep) is known as Te Ipu Kai a Mataaho (the Food Bowl of Mataaho, the god of things hidden in the ground) and is tapu (sacred) so don't enter it, but your welcome to explore the surroundings. Maori remains of pa terraces and storage pits are clearly visible.

The area is popular with joggers and walkers.

CIVIC THEATRE - Auckland



​The theatre constructed in 1929, is one of seven ‘atmospheric theatres’ remaining in the world and regarded as a fine example of cinema’s from the Golden Age.

The theatre offers lavish Moorish decorations and a starlit southern-hemisphere sky in the ceiling, complete with cloud projections. The foyer offers an Indian feel, showcasing elephants, monkeys and intrically sculpted pillars.

NEW ZEALAND MARITIME MUSEUM - Auckland

​

The museum showcases NZ’s seafaring history from Maori voyaging canoes to the America’s Cup.  There are a variety of displays including a tilting 19th-century steerage-class cabin & 1950's holiday home.  A tribute to Sir Peter Blake exists, the Whitbread-Round-the-World and America’s Cup–winning yachtsman who was murdered in the Amazon in 2001.

AUCKLAND DOMAIN - Auckland

​The Auckland Domain covers an area of 80 hectares and consists of beautifully cared for gardens, public sports fields, sculptures, bushy areas, duck ponds and the Winter Garden.  The Winter Garden consists of a fernery, the Tropical House, the Cool House and a cafe. The Domain is also home to the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Worth a look on that sunny day. The domain sits on Pukekaroa, one of Auckland’s dormant volcanoes.  In honor of the first Maori king there is a totara surrounded by a palisade.

Artspace is a non commercial galley committed to presenting new ideas in art and culture.  The gallery offers exhibits from sculpture and 

photography to moving images and sound art.

AUCKLAND MUSEUM - Auckland

The Auckland Museum is situated in the Auckland Domain and consists of Pacifc Island and Maori artefacts, varying displays including an egyptian display, military displays and volcanic displays as well as periodical international exhibits.  The Museum is known for its design key feature; the neo-classical temple (1929) capped with a copper-and-glass dome (2007). There are hour tours, half hour Maori tours and Maori gallery tours available daily. Please view the website for details.

AUCKLAND BOTANIC GARDENS - Auckland

 

The botanic gardens are a 64-hectare park with over 10,000 varieties of plants set amidst houses and themed gardens. Wonderful for that summers day stroll.

The gardens location are well sign posted, just keep an eye out when driving or walking.

Auckland Botanical Gardens
AUCKLAND ZOO - Auckland​

 

The Auckland zoo offers a wide variety of animals to view, with the big species; Lions, tigers and orangutans taking precedent. The Zoo offers a well presented NZ section Called Te Wao Nui which is divided into six ecological zones: Coast (seals, penguins), Islands (predominantly lizards), Wetlands (ducks, herons, eels), Night (kiwi, frogs, native owls and weta), Forest (birds) and High Country (Kea birds and lizards).
