Hawke’s Bay, has some of New Zealand’s highest sunshine hours - a warm climate infused with award-winning wine and gourmet food.

In 1931 the Hawke’s Bay region situated in the north island of the country suffered a massive earthquake which destroyed the cities of Napier and Hastings.

Within two years both towns were rebuilt in 1930s style architecture, because of this Napier has one of the highest concentrations of Art Deco architecture in the world.

The original Māori name for Hawkes Bay is Heretaunga and is home to several Māori iwi (tribes) including Ngati Kere, Ngati Hineuru, Whatuiapiti, Ngati Kahungunu, Taiwhenua o Tamatea and Rangitane. The landmarks and places of the regions coastlines and river valleys recall stories from the past.

A foody's heaven, Hawkes Bay is New Zealand's premier wine and food region, stocked with fresh produce, fine wine, and gourmet dining destinations for you to enjoy.

The several sub-regions within the Hawkes Bay, known for their particular wine styles, are responsible for award winning reds (merlot and cabernet sauvignon) and chardonnay's, which, while touring the many vineyards available you will have the opportunity to sample.

The Hawke’s Bay region is a luxury getaway destination. With a  reputation for gourmet food, fine wine, and high sunshine hours, the Hawkes Bay is a desirable region for that weekend holiday or long term visit.
