Mission Bay delivers a beautful white sandy beach just minutes from the city centre, situated along Tamaki Drive. A popular destination, Mission Bay is the the most accessible urban beach from downtown Auckland and considered one of the region’s most popular beaches.​ The bay itself combines a sheltered white sand beach with grassy areas and a magnificent fountain, all just across the road from a vibrant beachfront promenade lined with stylish but relaxed bars, cafes and restaurants.

Whites Beach is a fairly popular West Coast surfing, swimming and fishing spot in summer with people wanting to escape the crowds of neighboring beaches. Access is by foot only and facilities are limited. Given its exposed and turbulent nature swimmers are better advised to stick to patrolled beaches. United North Piha

United North Piha

A popular summer beach offering good parking and easy access, but usually less crowded than adjoining Piha. This is a potentially hazardous beach at which numerous people are rescued each year. Only swim in the patrolled areas and avoid the rips and headlands. Photo courtesy of piha.co.nz

Red Beach is a busy urban beach in Whangaparaoa with good facilities including the Red Beach Surf Life Saving Club catering mainly for the large local population. Piha Beach

Piha Beach

A very scenic, accessible and popular beach, with good parking right at the beach. However Piha is also a very hazardous beach and all swimmers should stay in the patrolled area and obey the directions of the lifeguards. Still on average 150 - 200 people are rescued here each year. Piha Beach has a Lifeguarding service and all beach partons should swim between the flags and listen to advice of the Guards. Pakiri Beach

Pakiri Beach

Despite its limited facilities Pakiri Beach is very popular with swimmers, surfers and fishermen alike. Many people are drawn here from Auckland in the summer months, as it is one of the first truly open ocean beaches on the east coast, north of the city, and is both picturesque and undeveloped. Orewa Beach is a very busy urban beach with excellent facilities including the Orewa Surf Life Saving Club catering for a large local population as well as visitors and tourists. O’Neill Beach is a popular West Coast surfing and fishing spot, despite the fact that it can only be reached on foot from Bethells Beach and has no facilities. A popular holiday and summer beach, used by both local residents and day trippers from Auckland. The best spot to head for is the Surf Club, where there is good parking and picnic facilities, good beach access and public amenities.

Muriwai Beach

This is a very popular beach with all year surfing and summer crowds. It is very accessible with good parking and camping facilities. Mairangi Bay

An accessible, quiescent beach with parking right next to the park and beach. Very popular with local residents and those after a quieter, safer family beach, together with the added safety of the Surf Life Saving Club.

Karioitahi Beach

Karioitahi Beach

Karekare Beach

Karekare Beach

This is an attractive beach reached through a steep valley. It is surrounded by steep, high ridges, along with a creek and lagoon which cut the beach in half. These all create a relatively natural and interesting beach environment. However if swimming or surfing use caution as it is a high energy hazardous beach which has been the scene of many rescues. Bethells/ Te Henga Beach

Bethells/ Te Henga Beach

Bethells Beach is a popular West Coast surfing, swimming and fishing spot with good facilities including a surf club. Given its exposed and turbulent nature swimmers are advised to stick to patrolled areas. The beach is accessed via a 300 meter walk along the edge of a lagoon from the carpark and surf club building.
