SUNDAY PAINTERS
185 Ponsonby Rd, Ponsonby, Auckland | 09-360 2001
In its first inception Sunday Painters was a pop up restaurant, operating sporadically in various hired halls in central Auckland from 2006-9. Organized by a group of friends – Tommy Govorko, James Kirkwood, Esther Lamb, Marcus Lush, Karl Maughan, Brita McVeigh, Emily Perkins and Isobel Thom, who, all having some degree of hospitality work in their pasts sought to revive the camaraderie and common purpose of running a restaurant, while creating a sense of community to those working often alone in the creative arts. In 2014, New chef Gordon Mcleod has returned to New Zealand after a decade as private chef to families in Paris and the South of France. His elegant seasonal menus reflect a career immersed in the cuisine of France. The wine list contrasts old and new with a carefully chosen selection of French & New Zealand regional & varietal wines.
