KAIMAI MAMAKU FOREST PARK - KatiKati

 

​The Forest Park consists of 37,000 ha and is a living museum of natural and human history. The park marks the northern limit of red and silver beech trees as well as Kamahi and is the southern limit of the kauri tree. There is a multitude of birdlife including the Fantail, Waxeye or Silver-Eye, North Island Robin, Kereru (NZ's native pigeon), Tomtit and Tui.

 

Location: Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park can be accessed at various points along SH2 (between Tauranga and Katikati), SH 26 (10 kilometres south of Te Aroha) or SH 29 20 kilometres from Tauranga.

MINDEN LOOKOUT - Tauranga

 

Minden Lookout is about 10km west of Tauranga towards Katikati and offers a superb view of the Bay of Plenty. To get there, take SH2 to Te Puna, turn into Minden Rd and head south travelling about 4km.

MONMOUTH REDOUBT - Tauranga



Monmouth Redoubt was a fortified site during the Maori Wars in 1864. Shaded by huge pohutukawa trees Monmouth Redoubt is situated next door to Robbins Park and offers remmants of the military settlers at that time.  At the foot of the Redoubt you'll find Te Awa nui Waka, a replica Maori canoe on display in an open-sided building.

ROBBINS PARK - Tauranga

 

Situated in Tauranga, Robbins Park offers wonderful views of Mt Maunganui admist a wash of roses.  There is a tropical display house housing begonias and orchids which is open during daylight hours. 

Nice for that sunny days stroll.

​BRAIN WATKINS HOUSE - Tauranga



Brain Watkins House is a Victorian villa museum, built of Kauri and 

representing the lifestyle of a victorian family in Tauranga over 100 years. Brain Watkins House remains one of Tauranga’s best-preserved colonial homes.

HURIA MARAE - Judea, Tauranga

 

Huria Marae is a beautifully carved marae, inside & out.  The Marae holds cultural experiences ranging from 60 minutes to overnight and is situated on Te Kaponga St which is nothing special, but the design and intricate carvings of the Marae are worth a look.

Visit the site to book a cultural experience or pass by to view the marae.
