​BEACHES
​There are a few beaches within the Hawkes Bay area that are popular with surfers and families alike, here's a list of the most popular.
Waipatiki Beach: here you'll find golden sand, a picturesque settlement, camping ground, picnic area and toilets.
Waimaramara Beach: Long stretches of sandy beach await for you to sunbath all day or take an evening stroll, here you'll find a cafe and general store, boat ramp and beach accommodation.​​
Mahia Peninsula: A mix of black & white sandy beaches, here you'll find sheltered swimming spots, reefs for surfing and rock pools for searching. Mahia offers several accommodation choices. ​​
Ocean Beach: an undeveloped stretch of beach is popular with surfers and families. During summer lifeguards are on hand to protect your safety.
Westshore Beach: The 1931 quake transformed the previously dangerous and shingly seashore into a safe and sandy swimming beach. Recreational activities include swimming, picnicking and sunbathing. The reserve includes a children's play area, surf clubs and changing and toilet facilities.
​ONGAONGA VILLAGE - Ongaonga

Ongaonga is a historic village 16km west of Waipawa consisting of interesting Edwardian and Victorian buildings. Visit the information centre in Waipukurau for a pamphlet for a self-guided walking tour.
The village hosts an art gallery and includes a wonderfully designed and restored butchers shop, the original community hall, a tradesman's centre, a general store, and a village pub.
